Service Description

Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the body. It has been used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine and more recently in Western medicine. Studies have shown that Acupuncture can assist the body's healing processes and produces natural pain-relieving chemicals which can also help with sleep and overall wellbeing. Dry needling is a treatment modality which consists of inserting needles into tight muscles or inflamed soft tissues. It differs from Acupuncture as it is aimed at trigger points which are hyper-irritable spots in muscles, sometimes commonly referred as “knots”. It can be carried out at superficial or deep tissue level. Your therapist will perform an assessment/examination of your symptoms to establish which treatment is appropriate for you. Acupuncture and dry needling involve the use of single-use, pre-sterilised needles of varying widths, lengths and materials. A number of needles may be used during each treatment, and these are typically left in position for a little while before being removed. They can be inserted close to the painful area or sometimes away from it.
